KAT PENKIN – A BETTER TIME
While life is in the midst of returning to normal, we are still not over the harsh realities of 2020’s lockdown. And, someone else who feels the exact same way is the R&B-meets-soul star on the rise, Kat Penkin.
Lending her Jorja Smith-esque tone and witty lyricism to the pandemic-centric track, “A Better Time”, the British artist looks to introduce the world to the sounds of her debut EP, Checkmate, starting with her latest release. Whilst serene in sound thanks to funk-infused production and the artist’s infectious vocals, the lyrics and their relatable portrayal of the months spent locked in the confines of our homes, the track boasts a sombre undertone. And, Kat really did say it best when she sang, “2020, what a prick.”
“’A Better Time’ is my lockdown anthem. I wrote it about all the long days that rolled into one, all the time spent inside, all the unsureness, sadness and anxiety that came with the lockdowns,” explains Kat. “This song transports me from being trapped inside my house and mind to my favourite places, and I hope it does the same for you.”
